Erin promoted Rusty Eye in her comment yesterday. Because I am always interested in discovering new heave metal bands, I wanted to check this one out. This is a quick review of Rusty Eye and their music. This band really rocks and I encourage you to check it out.
Rusty Eye is not a new heavy metal band. Being formed in 1995 in Mexico City, has actually been around for pretty long time. In fact, they are almost as old as Children of Bodom, a great melodic death metal band. Rusty Eye is founded by its bassist and vocalist mr. Rust. Nowadays the band is located in Hollywood as many other great American metal bands.
Rusty Eye includes three people, mr. Rust behind bass and vocals, Jehu with guitar as well as Miss Randall behind drums and vocals. Rusty Eye recorded their first LP Rust N’ Roll in 2000 and the second one Cryogenic in 2005. After the second album the band won the Best Female Drummer of the Year Award” by LA music scene magazine. Rusty Eye has also recorded Live at The Joint and Stendhal Syndrome.
Rusty Eye, according to Mr. Rust, plays progressive, punk and metal music. They are inspired from horror movies, which can be seen in their video and lyrics as well. The biggest influences of Rusty Eye are Iron Maiden (can be heard in sound), Motorhead, Rush, Celtic Frost, Goblin and Misfits.
Here’s a music video from Rusty Eye, namely Mr. Cannibal. I was suprised with the “simple” but very nice sound they have in the beginning. It is a damn good combination of simple guitar and good drumming. After the first notes the sound changes to trash metal, but soon I was suprising again. “Au, au, au” vocals by Mr. Rust gave me a feeling “man, what is this..”, but soon I realized it fits very well in the song. The best part was just coming, and it is the great voice of the drummer Miss Randall. I cannot say what makes it so good. Her voice just rocks!

The name Rusty Eye refers to the corrosion of perception; an existentialist, unpretentious way of making music that doesn’t follow trends or popular fads, serving as an example in the creation of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal music as an art form [Wikipedia].
Rusty Eye is also in MySpace!
