Lamb of God - a Heavy Metal Band from the United States of America

Misleading title? May be a little bit. American metal band Lamb of God has become one of the rising stars in the metal sky. Lamb of God, founded in 1990, plays trash, progressive, groove and speed metal. Their music is not easy to categorise, but probably the mentioned genres describe their music best. Lamb of God is founded by its guitarist Mark Morton, bassist John Campbell and drummer Chris Adler. In the early days the band was called as Burn the Priest, but they changed the name in 2000 when they signed a record deal with Prosthetic Records.

Later Lamb of God signed a deal with Epic Records and was selected as the main band in the first MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball tour. Lamb of God got lots of attention which probably was a big help to get finance for their music videos. On those days Lamb of God released their Ashes to the Wake album as well as Terror and Hubris DVD. Another DVD was released in 2005, which is called Killadelphia. On 2006 Lamb of God released their latest album, Sacrament, which has been a great success.

Lamb of God has toured with Finnish Children of Bodom and the trash-legend Slayer. The band is known from their use of Wall of Death moshpit and their technically complex riffs and drumming. Some folks have thought Lamb of God is a Christian band because of their band name and the name of their latest album (Sacrament). Well, if people dig a little more information on Lamb of God, they probably realize who these guys are. In their Ashes to the Wake album Lamb of God clearly pointed out their opinion on George W. Bush, but in the new album (Sacrament) they have taken a step back. The new album is not anymore politically loaded. Instead the theme is more around alcoholism. The new album has been a great success in United States and the band seems to be very happy with it.

What’s up with Lamb of God? They are touring in US right now. The next three gigs are in Albany (December 2nd.), Detroit (December 4th.) and Chicago (December 5th.). After that they continue the tour in Kansas, Texas, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona and New Mexico. Few weeks ago Lamb of God played in Helsinki together with Children of Bodom, Slayer, In Flames and Thine Eyes Bleed. According to one interview, Lamb of God guys are good friends with Children of Bodom. Blythe says that he is even a member in so called “Children of Bodom Hate Crew”. One can become a member of this crew if alcohol put into one’s mouth comes out from nose when standing on one’s head.

Sacrament album has received lots of positive and negative feedback. Some like it, some not. I like, but I will not provide any deeper review of the album. I only say that song Redneck is a cleaver way to raise the attention of metal scene and get people interested in Lamb of God. Redneck sounds very much like Pantera and this makes people discussing about Lamb of God. I like Redneck a lot. Check it out in the video below. Funny video, eh?

Why would a band like Lamb of God tour with the likes of Slayer and C.O.B. Those bands are all anti-Christian. L.O.G says they are neither, so what are their religious views then and why hang out with those non-Jesus loving idiots?

    Thanks.
    T.

What are the religious views of the band Children of Bodom?

Interesting comments, Tony. I must say I have no idea of the religious views of C.O.B. I think it’s their personal thing. Even though these guys make music with great passion, we need to remember that a metal band is also a show. Bands must provide a helluva show in order to become one of the top bands in the genre. There are bands who play hostile metal music, but believe in God. Anyhow, I consider it their personal thing and I am interested in their music and message they give through the music.
