Great Heavy Metal Bands of All Time - Accept

AcceptSomewhere in the middle of the 80’s, I got a C-cassette from my brother. Together with Iron Maiden cassettes, it was one of my very first metal music cassettes. It was Balls to the Walls from Accept. It was so damn good. I was fascinated. I listened to it every single day, several hours a day. Soon after that I received another Accept casette from my brother. This time it was Metal Heart. This album became as my first milestone in metal music. Since that day I have been a headbanger and I have enjoyed every moment. Man, I love my brother because of those two Accept C-cassettes!

What an intro.. funny, right? Heavy metal band Accept was one of my first contacts to metal music and it really was something awesome back in those days. Their powerful and masculine guitars combined with Udo Dirkschneider’s screaming voice were something different. Ok, there was also Judas Priest, but it was not similar to Accept, which was a bit slower and more traditional heavy metal with strong rythms and choirs. Judas Priest was faster and more speed metal than heavy metal. Anyhow, Accept was a big and shining star in the 80’s from which many bands have got their influences to metal music.

Heavy metal band Accept was founded in Solingen in Germany in early 1970’s. They started to play music seriously in 1976 when they got their first record deal with German Brain Records. The band was founded by vocalist Udo Dirkschneider who became the best known member of Accept. The first album, Accept, was released in 1978 which sold around 3000 pieces.

A couple of years later, in 1980, Accept released their second album I’m a Rebel. The first song in this album, I’m a Rebel, became the first hit of Accept. Next year Accept released their album Breaker which started the success of Accept. It included the classic song Son Of A Bitch whose lyrics were not included due to possible media hassle. Just imagine how different this world was 20 years ago..

Next year (1981) Accept released their best selling album, Balls To The Walls, in which song Balls To The Walls became as the best known Accept song ever. During 1983-1986 Accept toured around the world and became known worldwide. Soon after that the band broke up due to internal disagreements. Accept continued few years without Udo Dirkschneider who started his solo-career. Accept was not active between 1997 and 2004, but did a comeback in 2005.

What’s up with Accept nowadays? I don’t know. There is not much information in the net and I have not heard anything about the band. I feel their comeback was short and I just cannot believe that they would make more albums anymore. All in all, the old Accept albums are pure diamonds which I strongly recommend for every headbanger who is interested in old-school heavy, speed and power metal.

Let me recommend you the three best albums from Accept that never die:
1. Russian Roulette
2. Metal Heart
3. Balls To The Wall
