The Ugliest Men in the World are Here Again - Twisted Sister: a December to Remember

How old were you in the magic year 1984? I was ten years old and I was keen on listening to Iron Maiden, Accept and Motley Crue. One of my favorite bands on those days was Twisted Sister, the ugliest band on Earth, as my sister used to say. I was not interested how they looked like, I was into their music. No parents and musicians did like Twisted Sister, but we kids did love them very much. Every single dude used to draw Twisted Sister logo to all possible places. Twisted Sister did not obey the rules, it was rock and roll. For kids Twisted Sister was a way to be radical and not to follow each rule and authority. Even though nowadays Twisted Sister looks just funny, on the 80’s it was cool, at least for kids. Times are different now, and being cool and “rock n’ roll” today is different. Twisted Sister would not work anymore as they did more than 20 years ago.

Dee SniderTwisted Sister and Dee Snider are here again. This time they are bringing a Christmas album to the markets. A year ago they came up with an idea of recording a Christmas album. According to an interview I read, Dee Snider said that there were no Christmas albums for metal music audience and they wanted to make one. Well, mr. Snider has not followed Finnish metal scene. Few Finnish metal bands, such as Viikate, have released their Christmas albums already for few years. May be this has not been common in United States and in central Europe. A Twisted Christmas from Twisted Sister sold about 150 000 records, so the bands decided make another one. This time it is called a December to Remember.

Just like many other 80’s rock bands, Twisted Sister made a comeback as well. Twisted Sister used to be very famous back in 80’s, but their comeback has not been that amazing. The reason for average success is probably that Dee Snider has not written any new songs. According to mr. Snider, the audience is not interested in new songs. Instead they want to hear to old classics from the 80’s. Dee Snider failed with many projects, such as Desperado, Widowmaker and his own solo career. This time he wants to focus into playing old Twisted Sister classics and Christmas music. No new Twisted Sister stuff ever again.

Twisted Sister was on top of their career in 1984 when they released their flagship album, Stay Hungry. Next year they released Come Out and Play, but it did not sell as much as the previous album. On that same year drummer A.J. Pero left the band, and in 1987 released album Love Is For Suckers was the last one before the band broke up. Twisted Sister broke up because of internal disagreements. The band was a passion for Dee Snider and the other members did not get much attention. This was one reason for others to get frustrated with Dee Snider.

Twisted Sister came back in 2004 with their album Still Hungry, which is basically the same as Stay Hungry except it is heavier. Twisted Sister is reunited and according to mr. Snider they are happy for being together again. For me Twisted Sister does not mean much anymore. They used to be my idols in 1984, but today I am not much interested in their music. They were cool back in the 80’s, not anymore. All in all, I am not listening to Twisted Sister anymore, but I might check out their Christmas album. Just because I am curious.

    I was 3 in 1984!

Saw twisted sister last year i think, they were supporting Alice Cooper. Dee Snider was excellent and they completely blew Alice Cooper off the stage. Would love to see them again!
