Loading ...I just got the latest Soundi, a Finnish music magazine, in my hands. I read it through pretty quickly because there was not much interesting this time. One article got my attention. It is an interesting interview of Jussi69, the drummer of Finnish glam/sleaze rock band The 69 Eyes.
Who is The 69 Eyes? Currently 64% of the readers of this metal music blog are currently from United States. Some of you guys might have heard of The 69 Eyes, but I believe most of you have never heard of the band, especially if you are more into metal than glam/sleaze rock. The 69 Eyes is quite well known here in Finland, but it is an underground band for those in United States and Europe. Some time ago Bam Margera started to promote HIM, and because The 69 Eyes are friends of HIM, Bam was introduced to the guys of The 69 Eyes. Now he is promoting The 69 Eyes in United States and so far everything looks good.
Hold on! Tell me more about The 69 Eyes. The band was founded in Helsinki in the early 1990’s and the original line-up has been the same from beginning until today. The 69 Eyes plays glam/sleaze rock but they sound also gothic rock and gothic metal. Their best known tracks are “Gothic Girl“, “The Chair“, “Brandon Lee“, “Dance D’Amour“, “Betty Blue“, “Lost Boys“, “Perfect Skin” and “Never Say Die“. The 69 Eyes albums are distributed by EMI and their latest album is called “Hollywood Kills“, which was recorded in the legendary Whisky A Go Go.
In the interview of Soundi, Jussi69 says that during 2007 they spent over 200 days on the road. In 2008 the band is going to take it relaxed, but will also write new songs. Their latest album was recorded in the end of their US tour, in Whisky A Go Go. According to Jussi69, this was the best way to end a tour. The 69 Eyes tour in US was great, says Jussi69. Most of the gigs were sold out and the last gig in Whisky A Go Go, which was also sold out, was just perfect.
It is interesting to see how dedicated The 69 Eyes fans are. As Jussi69 says in the interview, many hardcore fans travel from country to another just to see the band night after night. When the band noticed that the same faces stand in the crowd, they decided to change their song list in order to provide something different to the dedicated fans.
Jussi69 mentioned that the band receives lots of gifts from fans. Most of the stuff is just nice, but when they receive someone’s ashes, it is not so much fun anymore. Jussi69 asks those people to leave such gifts for “Norwegian black hairs”, which probably means Norwegian black metal bands.
The 69 Eyes does not take music too seriously. Instead of trying to sell as much as possible, the band concentrates into the music and their way of living. According to Jussi69, it is much greater to sit at Pantera’s Vinnie Paul’s home listening to music than breaking sales records (Vinnie Paul invited The 69 Eyes to his home in Dallas).

Miranda, heh heh.. it’s really funny story. I did read about it some time ago, and I remember that Jussi69 mentioned it in some interview or in his radio show here in Finland. For sure they must receive lots of weird stuff, but someone’s ashes.. some people are really grazy.
