Is Metal Music Becoming Music for the Whole Family?

metal-3.JPGI just grabbed the latest issue of Finnish Sue music magazine. The magazine itself was pretty boring this time, but there was one interesting article. In the interview of Children of Bodom, Alexi Laiho mentioned that his teacher in music school said “heavy metal is a nice hobby but you should seriously consider playing some real music“. I guess that by playing metal music Alexi has earned at least 100 times more than his former teacher. Old dudes don’t always understand the music business.

In that same interview Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom mentioned another interesting thing. Alexi claims that metal music has suffered from the lack of respect due to popularization. As bands like Lordi win in European Song Contest, metal music comes closer to daily life. Because of this metal music becomes “music for the whole family”. 10-15 years ago metalheads used to be those who gave a shit for the rest of the world, while the rest of the world tried to lock metalheads outside the “normal society”. People used to consider all metal music fans some kind of “satanists”. Nowadays it looks like these two different worlds are becoming one. It looks like metal riffs are played at every second home, and what’s best, together with parents. Metal music is becoming “music for the whole family”. Every home has its own little “satanist” playing metal riffs with mom and dad. Please notice that I am exaggerating. My point is to show how I feel the future looks like. For me it looks like metal music is becoming “music for the whole family” due to popularization.

I don’t like this. Metal music is about rage, hate and revolution. Metal music represents something wild, fierce, furious and aggressive. It is not meant to be played together with mom and dad and grand parents. Metal music is a way to express your negative thoughts and feelings. Think about Arch Enemy or Satyricon. Could you imagine them winning in the European Song Contest (ESC)? Would you like to see the typical audience of ESC raising their fists up in the air during Arch Enemy’s gig? No, I rather keep these two worlds separated. As I come back home from my work, I grab a can of beer and head to garage. I listen to Arch Enemy or Amon Amarth and bang my head. It is my world there. I enjoy it alone. I want to keep metal music for metalheads and popular music for those who enjoy it.

There is one way to prevent metal music becoming “music for the whole family”. Stop winning European Song Contests with metal music. This year Finland is sending Teräsbetoni to ESC. Who will join it next year? Trivium? Lamb of God? Come on! It is nice to see metal bands winning, but keep metal music as its own world. Stop winning ESC with metal music.

Here is some metal for metalheads, not for the whole family. Amon Amarth - Death in Fire.

Five People Injured In ‘Rowdy’ Mosh Pit at Avenged Sevenfold Concert

Blabbermouth is reporting that several patients were taken to hospital after being injured Friday night at the Taste of Chaos concert at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Five people suffered from injuries such as twisted ankles and chest and abdominal pains. The local TV station WFTV has reported that the moshpit in the 5000-people concert got out of hand. Wittinesses say that more than 1000 people were allowed in the pit, which got very rowdy and chaotic.

The Taste of Chaos concert — featuring Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for My Valentine and Atreyu, among other bands — took place at the UCF Arena“, says Blabbermouth.

In Februry we asked our readers “should moshpits be banned“. The signal is clear no, even though accidents like this happen every now and then.

See the comment of John Claypool. He wants to defend good old mosh pits, but is against chaotic mess of violence. I agree with John. A peaceful mosh-pit is a great place to express yourself, but there are always jerks looking for a fight.

What do you think? Should mosh pits be banned or is this just over-reacting? Leave your opinion to comments.

How About Some Lousy Music from Bruce Dickinson? - Review of DVD: Bruce Dickinson Anthology

bruce.jpgLast week I proudly announced that I have got one music DVD in my hands and I am going to watch it. Well, I didn’t do it last weekend because I had no time. Today I watched the DVD, which is called Bruce Dickinson Anthology. This blog post is a review of that particular DVD.

Bruce Dickinson Anthology includes three DVDs, from which the first two DVD’s are recordings from live concerts and the third one includes promotional videos. DVD package includes also a small booklet in which the tracks are listed with few pictures and short descriptions of each DVD.

Bruce Dickinson Anthology DVD sucks. It is much worse than I expected. I have been a fan of Iron Maiden since the early 1980’s and I have always worshiped Bruce Dickinson as a singer, but I must say Dickinson’s solo career material is boring. Bruce still has his voice and he is as skillful as with Iron Maiden, but songs are just boring. So boring that I found myself fast-forwarding the DVD’s and jumping from track to another before the opening chords had been completed. Oh man, I am really disappointed with Bruce Dickinson Anthology.

The first DVD of Bruce Dickinson Anthology is a recording from live concert at Country Club in Los Angeles, August 1990. Dudes start the concert with pretty funny overkill intro. Even though the time is 1990, those guys really look funny with their leather jackets, tight pants and tank-top T-shirts. Music is just boring. No hooks, no nothing. Bruce tries to scream here and there and keep up some kind of “rock & roll”-feeling. I find only two tracks interesting and good. Those are Son of a Gun and Winds of Change. Bruce’s voice sounds great and I feel like singing together. Good, good stuff, but only two tracks in the whole concert. Camera work in this concert is just poor. So poor that I don’t want to say anything more about it.

The second part of the first DVD is a recording from a concert in Skunkworks tour in Spain, 1996. Camera work in this recording is a lot of better than in the first gig. One can see that cameramen in this concert are pros. The way they shoot and the angles and much better now. Looks good. Even though camera work is better, music still sucks. Ok, I find it a bit more interesting than in the Tattooed Millioner tour, but I am still missing the great hooks, long-lasting melodies and awesome rhythms of Iron Maiden. If I compare this stuff to Iron Maiden’s Seventh Son or Somewhere in Time albums.. No. In fact I cannot even compare this to those classic albums. Not at all. There are two good songs in this gig, just like in the previous one. Those are Tears of the Dragon and Prisoner. As you probably notice, Prisoner is Iron Maiden’s song. As I listen to Bruce singing Tears of the Dragon, I am impressed. That man has a unique, powerful and real heavy metal sound. Anyhow, it looks like Bruce Dickinson is nothing without Iron Maiden, and together they are kings of heavy metal.

bruce2.jpgHey Bruce! Get back your long hair! In the second DVD short-haired Bruce Dickinson performs a gig in Brazil, 1999. In nice years Bruce has developed much and his music sounds much better than in the first DVD. With this second DVD I find myself listening more and more. I don’t fast-forward that much anymore and I don’t skip tracks. Dickinson’s music contains more melodies and more interesting hooks, and guitars sound much better than in the first DVD. The reason for much better stuff is probably Adrian Smith who plays in the band of Bruce Dickinson. Gates of Urizen sounds pretty good with its melodies and drumming. While Killing Floor starts with a nice blues guitar, Laughing in the Hiding Bush brings back the great operatic singing style of Bruce Dickinson. Yeah! I like this.

Third DVD of Bruce Dickinson includes promotional videos between 1990 and 2005. Well, it is the same stuff with 24 higher quality pictures a second. The video for Tears of the Dragon is cool. I like it. Bruce sounds damn good in this piece of good old heavy metal. Accident of Birth is also pretty good. Man of Sorrows is a great ballad. Great guitars, very nice operatic vocals.

In the end of the third DVD you can watch Bruce Dickinson talking about Biceps of Steel and Tyranny of Souls. Well, nothing interesting for me in those.

Although there are few interesting songs and videos in the DVD’s, Bruce Dickinson Anthology is mainly boring. Those few good ones are not enough to make this DVD package interesting enough. I would not buy it. I like Bruce Dickinson with Iron Maiden, not as a solo artist. I have listened to Iron Maiden so much that every time I hear Bruce Dickinson, I expect something as great as Iron Maiden. Oh boy, those were the days when Iron Maiden released Seventh Son of the Seventh Son..

How About Some Grunge? - Review of Nirvana Nevermind DVD

nirvana1.jpgIt is the early 1990’s. Thrash metal is literally dead and grunge hysteria is growing from Seattle. A band called Nirvana is blasting out from every kid’s ghettoblaster, including mine. I am one of the last Mohicans of thrash metal in my high school, but I’m also turning my head towards grunge. There something raw, original and revolutionary in grunge and Nirvana. I am getting addicted to it.

As soon as I got Nirvana’s classic album Nevermind in my hands, I played it continuously day after day. I was a youngster and I spent much time drinking booze and going crazy in bars. I lived behind the back of God where they played either disco music or evergreens in bars. You can guess how frustrated we metalheads were. Sometimes they played Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, and in those moments I couldn’t resist myself going moshing and banging my head. Nirvana was so welcome to our annoying world of folk and disco music. It was time to get back to the mosh pits and spit out all the rage inside of us. Nirvana came and shacked the music industry as well as our lives.

That was some 15 years ago. Let’s get back to today’s riffing world metal music. Grunge is dead. It came fast and it died fast. In fact grunge died together with Kurt Cobain. Few days ago I got the DVD of Nirvana’s Nevermind in my hands. The DVD is a story of that classic album with a number of interviews of important persons related to that album.

Nirvana Nevermind DVD presents the story of each track in the album as well as the story of the whole album and making of it. It starts by telling how Nirvana came to record the album, how each track was created and what interesting techniques were used in recording the tracks. The DVD includes exclusive interviews of Nirvana band members, recorder and influential people of music industry.

The structure of Nirvana Nevermind DVD is simple, but it is a great DVD. Even though I am mostly into metal music, Nirvana played important role in my youth and therefore it really feels nice to understand how Nevermind was created and what are the stories behind each track. It is also very interesting to watch the interviews of band members and see rare video footages from live shows of Nirvana. What I find the best in this DVD is when the tech guy plays vocal recordings without instruments in the background. For example, it is nice to see how they overdubbed vocals and added more tracks to get heavier sounds. Although this is basic technique in recording, it is interesting to see how this particular album was created.

Nirvana Nevermind DVD is just awesome. I love it. That’s all. I give it five stars, ten stars or any other maximum of stars. This DVD brings me back to the early 1990’s and I love it. This DVD opens me a little bit of the world of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana and I love it. This DVD is just great.

Do you remember the opening sounds of Smells Like Teen Spirit continuing with “hello, hello” section? Do you remember how it explodes to the chords? Do you remember the awesome energy of Territorial Pissing? It was so fantastic back in those days, and it still rocks!

What Makes Great Metal Bands Change Their Genre or Style?

Some years ago I read an article of the flagship of Finnish metal music, Amorphis. They started as a death metal band in 1990, and examples of their great early production are tracks like Karelia, Black Winter Day, Exile of the Sons of Uisliu, Sign from the North Side, Black Winter Day, In the Beginning and The Castaway.

The real success began when they released they masterpiece, Elegy. Awesome opening sounds of Better Unborn blasted out gazillion times from my ghetto blaster, continuing with the faster and furious Against Widows. On Rich And Poor opened my eyes to melodic death metal, while My Kantele forced me to sit down, close my eyes, enjoy a glass of whiskey and fly away with my dreams. Amorphis was in my head 5-7 hours a day during late 90’s. Then happened what?

Amorphis released Tuonela and Am Universum and turned to progressive and stoner metal. Even though I do enjoy tracks such as Divinity and Drifting Memories, but they dont’ give me such kicks as Drowned Maid. I realized I miss death metal grunts and doom sounds. When Amorphis released Far From The Sun, I quit buying new albums, but I kept on listening to old material. I think Pasi Koskinen (ex vocalist) felt the same as he left Amorphis. Amorphis had changed from melodic death metal to progressive and stoner. Latest albums of Amorphis contain again elements of death metal, which I find good, but the bands doesn’t still sound as great as in the early 1990’s.

Nowadays Amoprhis sounds pretty good and is getting better and better, but there are few things I cannot stand. Check the video below. I HATE that nu-metal jumping of Tomi Joutsen (vocalist)! And what the fuck are those 40 years old ladies with their cameras doing in the audience? Are they looking for death metal? I guess not. Come on! Where are good old moshers? With this kind of riffs and death metal grunts one NEEDS a moshing! Look at the audience at 1:07 minutes. Yes, I know we Finns are pretty quiet and shy, but this audience is just standing. I see no heads banging. I hate to see great bands playing their classic masterpieces to audience like this. This is waste or good music. No, fuck this is raping!

Now, let’s take a look at Satyricon, a Norwegian black metal band. Just like Amorphis, Satyricon was founded in 1990. They are known from their classic black metal album Bad Medieval Times which contains masterpieces such as Walk the Path of Sorrow, Dark Medieval Times and Min Hyllest Til Vinterland. Satyricon’s debut album is a great piece of Norwegian black metal, one of the classics.

In their next albums, The Shadowthrone, Satyricon continued with black metal, even though flutes did not appear in this album anymore. Third album of Satyricon was again one great metal album, even though I find it more furious. Nemesis Divina contains awesome tracks such as Mother North.

In 1999 Satyricon released Rebel Extravaganza, which is labeled as black metal, but it clearly contains elements of industrial metal. Satyricon started to explore different sounds. Latest two albums of Satyricon, called Volcano and Now Diabolica! are also black metal albums, but they sounds much more “rocking” than older material. Satyricon’s awesome guitars are still there, but the rhythm has changed and albums are much easier to understand. They are clearly targeted to bigger masses. For many old-school black metal fans this has been disappointing.

Why these great bands, Amorphis and Satyricon, together with many other big names change their genre or style? Reasons are probably many, but change is not always just bad. With Amorphis I feel it has been negative, but in case of Satyricon the change has been interesting and positive. Sure I still enjoy their old music, but I also find the new stuff interesting. I have always loved guitars of Satyricon and they are still there, and combination of those guitars and new rhythm sounds cool.

Many death metal bands change their style towards progressive or even rock in order to reach more fans. They make music for living and selling 10.000 records in five years does not bring money enough for living. Remember what happened with Metallica in middle of 1990’s? A great thrash metal band cut their hair and released Load and Reload albums. Was that disappointing? Oh yes, if you ask me, but with that move Metallica found lots of new fans. There are zillions of people who say Metallica’s best song is Enter Sandman just because they haven’t heard the albums before Black and they are not familiar with thrash metal.

Bands get older and artists get interested in various new things. Their lives usually stabilize and they don’t carry so much hate anymore. Hate works as the fuel of metal music and if you don’t hate anything, it is pretty difficult to create such music as Arch Enemy’s. Bands evolve and they want to experiments different sounds and themes. Even though I might feel disappointed with Amorphis, I find the evolution of bands great. I love discovering new music and every now and then old bands release interesting new but different music. One great example is Celtic Frost.

In Flames Hysteria Beginning - Is the New Album Going to Explode the Bank?

in-flames2.JPGSwedish flagship metal band In Flames has become one of the most popular metal bands in Scandinavia, and in Finland it looks like In Flames hysteria is beginning. Come Clarity album has sold almost half a million copies, but is the new album Sense of Purpose going to explode the bank?

As I mentioned few days ago, I have received the latest issue of Finnish music magazine Soundi. The latest issue contains few very interesting articles, such as the interview of In Flames. In this blog post I refer to the interview, but I strongly recommend you to read the whole story from Soundi magazine. If you don’t understand Finnish, you might have some difficulties with understanding the interview..

In Flames played in Finland last summer in Ruisrock festival. Guitarist Jesper Strömblad was a bit surprised with the hysteria among the audience. Thousand of fists hit the air before In Flames had even started their show. In Flames seems to have lots of fans in their neighboring country. In the interview of Soundi magazine Strömblad says “You have awesome festivals here in Finland. I could say (with a smile in face) that we were transferred to a very distant place by helicopter, dropped with parachutes to the area, and still we had the house full of people and damn good feeling“.

New album of In Flames, Sense of Purpose, is going to be released in early April. In Flames has purchased their own studio where the new album has been created. According to the band, they really don’t miss the times of recording previous album. Come Clarity was recorded I two studios. Vocals, drums and keyboards were recorded in Uppsala, while guitars and bass were recorded in Göteborg. Long distance caused problems with communication. Anders Friden sent massive files over the Internet and other band members had to wait while the files were downloaded. Now everything works much easier as the whole band works in their own studio.

The IF Studios is really professional and comfortable studio, as one can see in the videos In Flames has published in their MySpace site. One might wonder how much In Flames has paid for the studio, and the answer is probably millions of Swedish Krona. The studio has hundreds of square meters of space, little offices, instrument storages and places to hang around. Some people may know that In Flames dudes are keen on video games, and in the studio one can find lots of XBox games. “We just purchased a damn expensive place to spend free time“, says drummer Daniel Svensson with a smile in his face.

In Flames aims to sound timeless and with their ninth album they are very close to the goal. A Sense of Purpose was created from pieces of guitar riffs that were further processed with drum machine. Step by step the demos turned to reasonable entities. Finally the new album was ready. Fans around the world cannot wait to get that album in their hands.

In Flames doesn’t rehearse that much anymore. “We haven’t rehearsed for years, but before the tours we need to refresh our memories“, says Peter Iwers. In Flames are professionals and have long term experience in music and music business. As the reported of Soundi magazine asks about the negative things in music business, Peter Iwers replies “I don’t understand people who become assholes due to success. For example two hours photo session can be too much for artists with huge ego“. I agree with Peter Iwers. I like bands and artists who remain the same persons, no matter how successful they are. In Flames is a good example of such a band. Rock on In Flames!

Scott Ian from Anthrax has Launched His Personal Videoblog

Ewan left comment in my article of trading places with metallers. As Ewan says, Scott Ian has launched his private videoblog in which he publishes shows produced by himself. It’s a cool blog, check it out!

I am a life-long Anthrax fan and I enjoy Scott Ian’s guitar playing very much. I like the attitude of Anthrax dudes, they are pretty cool. I remember I heard them first time back in 85 when they had released Fistful of Metal and Spreading the Disease, those two classic albums. It was love on first sight :)

Last night I went to gas station to buy cigarettes. I listen to Radio Rock in Finland, the only channel playing metal music sometimes. As I switched on the radio, I was surprised that they played I Am The Law of Anthrax. It was a pleasure to hear that great piece of metal for long time! Man, those early albums of Anthrax are fabulous. Personally I enjoy Persistence of Time the most. It is full of great music.

See this piece of gold from the glorious 80’s.

So Scott Ian has launched his private videoblog and you should see it. If you enjoy Anthrax and Scott Ian, go and check it out! It looks like the blog is managed by Nonelouder.Com who has also interesting contests. Check, you might win a dean guitars vendetta.

Interesting New Issue of Soundi Music Magazine

cavalera.jpg
Yesterday I said my day previous day was a bad one. It was nothing compared to this day. Man, I behave like a 13-years old metalhead.. Well, life is life. I should not talk about my personal things in this blog.

Today I received the latest issue of Soundi, a Finnish music magazine. A quick look at this issue says that there are few nice articles to read. I cannot wait for tomorrow morning as I can grab a coffee, take my Soundi magazine and read it at work. There is an interesting article of Timo Tolkki, the genius guitar-man of Stratovarius. Timo has a bipolar disorder and he talks about his disease and music in an interview. Then there is a short story of a professor of the University of Helsinki who is researching metal music. He is located in my campus, so I feel like I need to meet him. His study is one of the first ones in metal music, so I feel like I need to ask him few questions, such as “for what reason human beings prefer certain patterns of notes instead of arbitrary notes“? Do you know the answer? Please, tell me.

As I continue reading the magazine, I see there is an interesting article of Testament. Hell yeah, I gotta read it! Then there is a nice article of In Flames, which I definitely have to read in the morning! Those guys from my neighboring country Sweden are absolutely great! Then there is an article of R.E.M. Okay, I’ll take those pages with me when I go to toilet..

Continuing the magazine.. a short article of Children of Bodom! Yes! This is great! C.O.B. is one of my favorite death metal bands. It looks like Janne Wirman has long hair again. Janne, please forget that Metallica thing and keep your long hair. An what’s best in that article.. guys look like they are having the worst hangover ever, especially Roope Latvala! One funny things is that while all the others of C.O.B. look like having a bad hangover, Alexi Laiho is having a full make-up. Don’t know what to say about that..

Hey! The best part is coming. In the end of the magazine I see an interview of Cavalera Conspiracy, the new band of Max Cavalera of Sepultura and Soulfly.. I’m going to wake up early and read this mag through. Yes! This is nice. The news stuff of Cavalera sounds like Sepultura but sharper and loaded with solos. It sounds great! Yeah, music sounds great, but the video looks like some fucking cheap Blair Witch Project copy.. It is boring.

Rock on dudes! Sometimes life is annoying, but stick to long-term goals. I feel ashamed for my behavior today but I am optimistic. There will always a better day, no matter how bad your day was today. Keep it metal!

Saving My Day With Apocalyptica

apo2.jpgDamn! Yesterday was such a day which should not exist. I’m so pissed off with yesterday. I woke up today and thought “I need to listen to something good in order to cool down and behave”, so I came up with an idea of listening to Apocalyptica whole day long. A couple of albums completed, few left. Looking good so far..

What’s up with the dudes of Apocalyptica? I just read from Apocalyptica homepage that On February 3 the Finnish movie awards (’Jussi’-Awards) took place in Helsinki and Eicca won an award for the soundtrack for the prestigious movie ‘Musta Jää’. Congratulations Eicca! There are 16 tracks in the soundtrack, which I consider pretty much for one man to compose. There are new T-shirts and other clothing of Apocalyptica available. See the “spring collection” of Apocalyptica band clothing in their webshop.

Apocalyptica is starting new tour in the beginning of April. According to their tour calendar, Apocalyptica will play the first notes in Turkey, after which they will continue with a long tour in U.S. Later in the spring Apocalyptica will play in various countries across Europe. The first time they will play in their home country (Finland) is in July. Come on, guys! Give us even one little gig before the summer!

Apocalyptica belongs to my friends in MySpace and every now and then they post news through the news feed of MySpace. For some reason they have not posted news for a while, so guys must be taking it relaxed before the tour. While there is a hiatus on Apocalyptica’s MySpace activity, it looks like Trivium is one of the most active news posters in MySpace. I am receiving tons of “Trivium added a new photo..”. Well, it’s just nice to hear what’s up with Trivium, one of my favorite bands.

Ookay, it’s time to listen to some more Apocalyptica. Here is their video for Somewhere Around Nothing. Oh man, I love those cello notes in this video..

New Metal Week is Starting..

anthrax.jpgIt felt good to start this new week this morning! As I have mentioned few times, I’ve been sick for some time. It’s great to be back! Anyhow, going to work does not feel that good, so I started my work week by surfing across various metal music sites. Few interesting things got my attention, here are some of them.

Blabbermouth.Net writes that Anthrax has released brand-new photos. Yeah, I had to check them immediately as I am a life-long Anthrax fan. Pretty nice photos, I would say. This new singer, Dan Nelson doesn’t have such street credibility as John Bush, but I am looking forward to hear his voice. He got his job as Anthrax singer almost by accident because it was Rob Caggiano who asked him to join Anthrax. According to Nelson, things are doing well with recording. Nelson says that the new CD will be “heavy as hell” and will include those elements Anthrax is best known for. All right Nelson, your new CD gotta be like Among the Living. At least you MUST have tracks such as Indians and One World! I am here waiting to get that album..

Max and Igor Cavalera (founding members of Sepultura) answer questions submitted by fans. This was done during their recent visit to UK. Dudes have a new project called Cavalera Conspiracy and their debut album “Inflikted” will be released in North America on March 25, 2008.

MetalUnderground.Com writes that you can now download the new album of Nine Inch Nails for FREE. In fact, there are also few other download choices with $-signs. Anyhow, I must check this one. I like Nine Inch Nails and would be nice to get their new material for free.

One of my latest friends in MySpace is Toni Paananen, a Finnish drummer of Malpractice. Check out Toni’s MySpace profile and listen to the material of Malpractice. Pretty good progressive metal, eh? I like Toni’s drumming as well as guitars of Joonas Koto. Listen to the second track, Assembly Line, in Toni’s profile. Sounds cool! Although the vocals of Malpractice don’t impress me, I feel like I need to check the material of this band.

So, it’s a new week starting. Nice. It means five new days at work. Hopefully one of them is already completed..

Do You Hate Metalcore?

MetalMartyr writes how tired it is to hear people saying “I hate metalcore”. In fact, it is tired to hear people complaining how they hate this metal genre and that metal genre. I agree with Scott (the author of MetalMartyr.Com). Many times when people say they hate this and that genre, they actually don’t have much idea of the genre. It appears that many die hard metalheads hate metalcore. Why? Well, I’m not sure, but I guess the reason is that metalcore is more for the masses than thrash, death and especially black metal. I personally enjoy melodic death metal the most, but I am also fan of many thrash, black, power and even metalcore bands. I am not into Linkin Park, which I consider more rock, but I enjoy Bullet For My Valentine very much.

Why people say they hate metalcore? I believe another reason for saying that is that people want to belong to some groups, such as death metal fans or punk fans. In that group people worship the genre they represent, and hating another genre helps to be more individual. Those who “love all kinds of music” are not tightly connected to a certain group. Hmm.. this is how I see it. I might be wrong. What do you think? Leave a comment.

Check out the poll on right sidebar. In that poll I ask “what do you think of metalcore”. Please leave your vote! If you are not sure which bands represent metalcore, examples of those are Bullet For My Valentine, Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying. Are you a fan of those bands? Just leave your vote to the poll on the right sidebar.

As I said above, I enjoy melodic death metal the most, but I also listen to other metal genres such as thrash and power metal. Additionally I listen to other types of music very much, such as folk and classical. In fact I listen to classical more than metal. I feel that listening to many different kinds of music gives a helluva good basis for understanding various artists. Music in different forms is wonderful. It is something I get addicted to.

Here is one of my favorite videos. Don’t mind the lousy quality. Listen how fabulous piece of music is Rachmaninov’s prelude 23-5 played by Evgeni Kissin.

So I must say I don’t hate any genres. I just love some genres more than others.
