Scott Ian from Anthrax has Launched His Personal Videoblog

Ewan left comment in my article of trading places with metallers. As Ewan says, Scott Ian has launched his private videoblog in which he publishes shows produced by himself. It’s a cool blog, check it out!

I am a life-long Anthrax fan and I enjoy Scott Ian’s guitar playing very much. I like the attitude of Anthrax dudes, they are pretty cool. I remember I heard them first time back in 85 when they had released Fistful of Metal and Spreading the Disease, those two classic albums. It was love on first sight :)

Last night I went to gas station to buy cigarettes. I listen to Radio Rock in Finland, the only channel playing metal music sometimes. As I switched on the radio, I was surprised that they played I Am The Law of Anthrax. It was a pleasure to hear that great piece of metal for long time! Man, those early albums of Anthrax are fabulous. Personally I enjoy Persistence of Time the most. It is full of great music.

See this piece of gold from the glorious 80’s.

So Scott Ian has launched his private videoblog and you should see it. If you enjoy Anthrax and Scott Ian, go and check it out! It looks like the blog is managed by Nonelouder.Com who has also interesting contests. Check, you might win a dean guitars vendetta.

New Metal Week is Starting..

anthrax.jpgIt felt good to start this new week this morning! As I have mentioned few times, I’ve been sick for some time. It’s great to be back! Anyhow, going to work does not feel that good, so I started my work week by surfing across various metal music sites. Few interesting things got my attention, here are some of them.

Blabbermouth.Net writes that Anthrax has released brand-new photos. Yeah, I had to check them immediately as I am a life-long Anthrax fan. Pretty nice photos, I would say. This new singer, Dan Nelson doesn’t have such street credibility as John Bush, but I am looking forward to hear his voice. He got his job as Anthrax singer almost by accident because it was Rob Caggiano who asked him to join Anthrax. According to Nelson, things are doing well with recording. Nelson says that the new CD will be “heavy as hell” and will include those elements Anthrax is best known for. All right Nelson, your new CD gotta be like Among the Living. At least you MUST have tracks such as Indians and One World! I am here waiting to get that album..

Max and Igor Cavalera (founding members of Sepultura) answer questions submitted by fans. This was done during their recent visit to UK. Dudes have a new project called Cavalera Conspiracy and their debut album “Inflikted” will be released in North America on March 25, 2008.

MetalUnderground.Com writes that you can now download the new album of Nine Inch Nails for FREE. In fact, there are also few other download choices with $-signs. Anyhow, I must check this one. I like Nine Inch Nails and would be nice to get their new material for free.

One of my latest friends in MySpace is Toni Paananen, a Finnish drummer of Malpractice. Check out Toni’s MySpace profile and listen to the material of Malpractice. Pretty good progressive metal, eh? I like Toni’s drumming as well as guitars of Joonas Koto. Listen to the second track, Assembly Line, in Toni’s profile. Sounds cool! Although the vocals of Malpractice don’t impress me, I feel like I need to check the material of this band.

So, it’s a new week starting. Nice. It means five new days at work. Hopefully one of them is already completed..

Who Would You Like To Be for One Day - Trading Places With Metallers

Scott IanScott from MetalMartyr wrote a nice post of Trading Places With Metal Faces. Instead of listing the metal faces Scott would like to trade places with, he lists the faces he would NOT trade. Before reading more than the first few lines of Scott’s post, I thought about Sebastian Bach from Skid Row and Lars Ulrich from Metallica, and surprise, they are both in Scott’s list. Read it, it’s a good post!

Based on Scott’s post, I decided to write about five metallers with whom I WOULD like to trade places, but only for one day. You know, most of us have dreamed of being a rock star. The kid inside me still wants to be a rock star. Now the question is like who I would like to be and why? Let me tell you. Notice that I would like to trade places only for one day. I am satisfied with myself, so one day would be enough. Read more to find out why.

1. Michael Kiske - I sing and I suck. My voice is tenor but it is just horrible compared to great singers like Michael Kiske. I would like to trade places with Michael Kiske in order to know how it feels to be an awesome singer. As Michael Kiske I would sing “Eagle Fly Free“, “I Want Out” and “Keeper of the Seven Keys“, all from the Helloween album Keeper of the Seven Keys, Part 2. Michael Kiske is one of my favorite vocalists and it definitely would be great to be in his boots for one day.
2. Scott Ian - As a life-long Anthrax fan I would like to spend one day as Scott Ian. Why? Not because he is good with his guitar, but because I want to know how it feels to jump around in front of thousands of people while you are wearing funny shorts. Those funny-looking shorts were the style on 1980’s and I would like to experience it!
3. Eric Adams - I want to spend one day as Eric Adams. I respect him as a singer; he has a good and powerful voice. Listen how he sings Nessun Dorma to know why I enjoy his singing. Anyhow, I am not into his clothing style. I find those leather clothes embarrassing. As Eric Adams I would change the clothing of Manowar. For Karl Logan I would say “go to gym”.
4. Alexi Laiho - Children of Bodom is one of my favourite bands and Alexi Laiho is one of my favorite guitar players. I would love to spend one day in his boots learning his skills with guitar. Well, during one day you really can’t learn much, so most probably I would get wasted with the other guys of the band. Anyhow, I would enjoy that day. The day after would probably be the worst hangover in my life.
5. Phil Anselmo - Yeah, you know. What would be better than being Phil Anselmo for one day and singing Cemetery Gates in front of 50.000+ people. At least I would hear Dimebag playing live. I never got the chance.

With whom you would trade places?

The Very Best Trash Metal Album of All Time

I was thinking today, which trash metal album is the best of all time? Which album has generally been ranked as the best trash metal album of all time? You might think that it is not possible to say which one is the best one, while someone would say Metallica’s Master of Puppets is the best one. Is it the best one? Or is it Slayer’s Reign in Blood? Difficult question, eh?

There are many ways to “measure” which one is the best trash metal album of all time. Some people say the best one is the one that has sold the most, while others get furious for such a statements. Some folks say the best album is the fastest one, while others would say the best album is the one including heaviest riffs and sounds. There are many ways to approach this question, but let’s first think about the candidates.

master.jpgFor myself Metallica’s Ride The Lightning is an important milestone because, even though it might sound funny, with that album I discovered trash metal. Anyhow, Metallica’s Master of Puppets was so much better album that I personally consider Master of Puppets as a very good candidate. There were naturally many other bands as well, not just metallica. Slayer’s Reign in Blood has been considered by many people as the best trash metal album of all time. Slayer’s album was very very fast in 1980’s, and it is definitely a legendary album, a classic.

reign.jpgThe world is not that small. Metallica was getting very popular in the middle of 80’s, but there were other great bands as well. Good candidates for the “competition” are Testament’s The Legacy, Dark Angels Darkness Descends, Anthrax Among The Living, Exodus Bonded By Blood, Megadeth’s Rust In Peace, Kreator’s Pleasure To Kill, Slayer’s Hell Awaits and Metallica’s Ride The Lightning. Do you think one of these albums is the trash metal album of all time?

There have been a number of polls and surveys to find the best trash metal album of all time. Terrorizer magazine did this in 2003 and the result was that Slayer’s Reign In Blood won. Anyhow, people like what they like. We all have our own best albums, and my personal opinnion is that Metallica’s Master Of Puppets is the trash metal album of all time. Reign In Blood is a fast album, but I personally like very much those heavy riffs and melodies of Master Of Puppets. So, which are the killer tracks in that album? What makes it the best album? Three superb tracks are Welcome Home, Orion and Damage Inc. Ok, I just gotta mention also Leper Messiah, the track that has definitely the best lyrics in the album.

What is your opinnion?

Five Bands I would Like to Invite to My Christmas Party

Christmas is soon here and so is the party. I mean so called “pre-Christmas” party. We have already had that party at my work but some companies are going to have it on this week. There is always some live music in our parties. Usually there are some deadly boring old fags playing 70’s pop and rock covers. I have never seen a metal band in any parties organized by my employers. If I was in charge I would organize a bit different Christmas party..

Who would you like to see live in your party? I am into metal music, so I created a list of five bands I would like to invite to my party. After their gigs the bands would naturally join the audience and spend time with us. Which bands I would invite? Read below.

Band number 5: Mokoma

Mokoma is a band I would definitely invite to my party. They know how to entertain audience and how to play some trash metal. I would love to sit down with Mokoma’s singer Marko Annala and share a discussion. He is a clever guy and would probably have interesting things to say. Unfortunately he has quit drinking, so I could not drink a couple of Whiskey’s with him. Anyhow, Mokoma would be a perfect band to start the party with their aggressive trash metal.

Band number 4: Machine Head

Our trash metal party would continue with the great American metal band Machine Head who would provide us some more headbanging rhythms. I believe few dudes at my work would be very satisfied with Machine Head who would start their “my Christmas party” gig by playing Now I Lay Three Down.

Band number 3: Anthrax

After two great trash metal bands it would be great to continue with.. more trash metal! Good old Anthrax would play us their old classics such as In My World, Indians and Got The Time. Additionally they would play also some new stuff, but the singer would be Belladonna. With all the respect, all Anthrax singers have been good, but personally I prefer Belladonna. My great Christmas party would be well warmed up when Anthrax plays their What Doesn’t Die.

Band number 2: Lamb Of God

No no, my party would not be over yet. It would just get better and better, because the next band coming to satge would be Lamb Of God, who would start their gig by playing Redneck. Now, after Lamb of God gig I could have my change to drink a couple of Whiskey’s with these guys who do not say no to alcohol. I would not ask a single “fan question”. I believe they here them enough.

Band number 1: Children Of Bodom

Just before the midnight, the fifth band in my Christmas party would enter the stage. Children of Bodom would start their gig by playing Silent Nights, Bodom Nights. They would play 30 minutes for me and other nerds at my work. Just before the end of their gig, Children Of Bodom would play In Your Face.

So, my party would finally be over and all the nerds would get back to their homes. Well, I would thank the bands and ask them to join me and my mates to see the well kept secrect, Pantera playing live at Tavastia club in Hellsinki. I think I would run out of money before the first bands has entered the stage..

Have a great trashing Christmas party! Who would YOU invite? Drop a comment.

Anthrax - What Doesn’t Die (live)

Good old Anthrax.. I used to cause some pain for my parents some 20 years ago by listening to Anthrax loud. Yeah, that was then. Now Anthrax is back, alive and kicking. Here’s a live recording from Wacken Open Air 2004 gig. Listen to John Bush, he has got a true rock voice.

Anthrax - In My World

Man, I’ve got a boring job..

I should start writing one god damn spec but I’ve got no motivation. Aaarrggh!!

Well, I gotta do that job, but first I need to find some motivation. From where? From Anthrax, yeah! Remember those days when metal dudes played Flying V on stage wearing tight black jeans, white socks and running shoes? Then they ran around the stage like grazy (Ian Scott) and performed some weird tricks (David Lee Roth)?

Well, here’s a pretty good video in which Anthrax plays In My World in Al Bundy’s house. Heh.. “they are going to eat the mystery pack. Even dad would not eat the mystery pack. These guys are cool”.. HAH HAH!

As a teenager I used to listen to Anthrax every single day, but that’s a long time ago. Look at those guys in Bundy’s house, they look so young! Man, it makes me thinking that I’m an old fart already..

The video stops too early so watch the full version here (I did not find the code for embedding the video here).
