Saving My Day With Apocalyptica

apo2.jpgDamn! Yesterday was such a day which should not exist. I’m so pissed off with yesterday. I woke up today and thought “I need to listen to something good in order to cool down and behave”, so I came up with an idea of listening to Apocalyptica whole day long. A couple of albums completed, few left. Looking good so far..

What’s up with the dudes of Apocalyptica? I just read from Apocalyptica homepage that On February 3 the Finnish movie awards (’Jussi’-Awards) took place in Helsinki and Eicca won an award for the soundtrack for the prestigious movie ‘Musta Jää’. Congratulations Eicca! There are 16 tracks in the soundtrack, which I consider pretty much for one man to compose. There are new T-shirts and other clothing of Apocalyptica available. See the “spring collection” of Apocalyptica band clothing in their webshop.

Apocalyptica is starting new tour in the beginning of April. According to their tour calendar, Apocalyptica will play the first notes in Turkey, after which they will continue with a long tour in U.S. Later in the spring Apocalyptica will play in various countries across Europe. The first time they will play in their home country (Finland) is in July. Come on, guys! Give us even one little gig before the summer!

Apocalyptica belongs to my friends in MySpace and every now and then they post news through the news feed of MySpace. For some reason they have not posted news for a while, so guys must be taking it relaxed before the tour. While there is a hiatus on Apocalyptica’s MySpace activity, it looks like Trivium is one of the most active news posters in MySpace. I am receiving tons of “Trivium added a new photo..”. Well, it’s just nice to hear what’s up with Trivium, one of my favorite bands.

Ookay, it’s time to listen to some more Apocalyptica. Here is their video for Somewhere Around Nothing. Oh man, I love those cello notes in this video..

Apocalyptica Interview - Apocalyptica’s Eicca and Mikko Interviewed by Someone

Apocalyptica is so great band that I must continue from yesterday’s article Go Apocalyptica Go! Today I came across with an interview of Apocalyptica. In fact Apocalyptica’s Eicca and Mikko are interviewed by someone in this video, not by me. I have no idea who is the interviewer and where this has been published, but this video can be found in YouTube. Let’s see what Apocalyptica’s Eicca and Mikko say.

In this interview Eicca and Mikko from Apocalyptica talk about their music and instruments. According to Eicca, music is the most important right now, not the instrument. In the past Apocalyptica’s focus was in the instrument, but now the instrument comes after their music. I guess the turning point was when Apocalyptica started to add visiting singers to their music. Apocalyptica took the next big step by adding a drummer into the band. I think this was the key to their success. Without the drummer and singers Apocalyptica would have stayed as a marginal band. Pure cello sounds would not be enough to reach bigger masses of fans.

When Apocalyptica was asked “how they develop those weird sounds”, Eicca replied that they create the sounds by processing cello sounds with various techniques, such as different distortions, compressions and microphones. Additionally Apocalyptica utilizes different cello playing techniques in order to create various sounds, such as flute-like sounds. So, the final sound is created by utilizing the combination of various effects and playing techniques. This reminds me the video of Alexi Laiho and Roope Latvala playing Vivaldi. Many people have claimed that they use violins in the background, but in fact the violin-sound is created with guitar effects and playing techniques.

Even though you might think Apocalyptica uses other instruments as well, you actually hear all the time only cellos and drums, except a little bit of guitar in two songs of the latest album. I think it is my time to listen to Apocalyptica again. Listening to Apocalyptica is like listening to classical music. You never get bored with it.

Go Apocalyptica Go! - Apocalyptica With Cristina Scabbia: SOS

Some time ago I heard people discussing in radio of how good Finns are in making classical music. They probably did not mean the group of classical cellists, Apocalyptica :)

When Apocalyptica was formed, I remember thinking how on Earth they will find audience. I thought their music is so special that they won’t reach the masses. I was wrong. I am glad I was wrong, once again. It has been great to see how Apocalyptica has pushed down the barriers and made their way to the top of Finnish metal music. Apocalyptica is now one of the best known Finnish bands, and we already have some big names like Children Of Bodom and Amorphis. Apocalyptica has very good reputation and all the signs provide just good for the band.

Apocalyptica’s guys were students at Sibelius Academy, the best music school in Finland. I guess they were bored with playing Boccherini, Haydn and others and therefore started playing Metallica covers by the cello. For long time Apocalyptica was known as an underground band playing metallica by four cellos. In the video below you can see Apocalyptica playing Metallica’s classic Fight Fire With Fire, a very fast trash metal song.

Today Apocalyptica is different. They have added drums and visiting singers to their music. Their music sounds now fulfilled and somehow complete. Apocalyptica has become a serious band, a damn good band. Apocalyptica has very good contacts in music industry, as we can see from the list of bands and singers Apocalyptica has worked with. There are really big names, such as Sandra Nasic (Guano Apes), Nina Hagen, Till Lindemann (Rammstein), Corey Taylor (Slipknot), Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil) and Bullet For My Valentine (intro for song Poison).

Apocalyptica has sold over two million records worldwide and they just started becoming famous. There are still millions of people who have never heard of Apocalyptica. The road Apocalyptica has chosen was risky, but right now it all looks just perfect. It has been great to witness their success and I hope this is just beginning of a bigger story. Go Apocalyptica Go!

A Group Called Apocalyptica from Finland - Few Words About Apocalyptica Videos and Music Sheets

Many years ago, a group called Apocalyptica, started to play Metallica cover songs just for fun. Apocalyptica was a cello quartet founded by the graduates of Sibelius Academy in Finland. Back on those days they were different and some folks did not take them seriously. Anyhow, in few years they gained name in the metal music scene. They were different but they played very interesting metal music with their cellos.

apo7.jpgNowadays this group called Apocalyptica does not play Metallica covers that much, but instead have composed their own songs. Apocalyptica has played together with big names, such as Rammstein, Sandra Nasicin, Nina Hagen, Cristina Scabbia, Ville Valo (HIM), Dave Lombardo (Slayer) and Corey Taylor from Slipknot. In addition to those Apocalyptica has also contributed to the albums of other bands, such as Bullet for My Valentine. As a diamond to the top of the list I would like to mention Apocalyptica’s version of Edvard Grieg’s classical piece “Hall of the Mountain King.

Apocalyptica has released eleven singles, eleven albums and two DVD’s. Few of the best known Apocalyptica songs are I’m Not Jesus, Bittersweet, Hope, Path, Faraway, Seeman, Life Burns and Nothing Else Matters. Right now Apocalyptica is touring in France in Europe. After that Apocalyptica continues their tour to Spain, UK, Ireland, and Germany and so on.

apo3.jpgApocalyptica has released few videos and few of them are linked here in Metal-Music-Videos.Com from YouTube.Com. My favorite Apocalyptica videos are The Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, Quutamo, I’m Not Jesus and Hall of the Mountain King played live in Germany. Ok, that’s not all. I forgot Repressed. What makes that video fabulous is the visiting vocalist Max Cavalera from Soulfly. I have been a Soulfly fan since the Ice Age and that particular music video of Apocalyptica and Max Cavalera playing together is just a pure diamond, a piece of art.

I have been looking for free Apocalyptica music sheets with poor results. I have found few sites providing Apocalyptica’s sheets with price on it. In case you are ready to pay, here are few sites providing the sheets:

SheetMusicPlus

Prex

Harmageddon

Here is a long discussion of Apocalyptica’s music sheets

Apocalyptica’s lyrics you can easily find by typing just Apocalyptica and the song name to Google, so I am not going to link them here.

Apocalyptica continues their successful career. It is great to see guys of my homecountry still going strong. Yeah, rock!

HELLsinki - The Home of Great Metal Bands

HELLsinki, the cold and dark home of great metal bands. Being located far from big metropolis and cities such as New York, LA, Tokyo, Paris, Hellsinki has still become the home of many great metal bands. HELLsinki is the capitol of Finland with around 1 million inhabitants. Right now (Friday night) HELLsinki is rainy, dark and cold city, but on summer time it is very live, warm and nice city with lots of happenings, such as Tuska open-air metal festival. HELLsinki is a good place to live, I really enjoy. It is also worth of visiting, so just pack your luggage and book a flight to HELLsinki. Meet your favorite metalheads in On the Rocks bar or see your favorite Finnish metal band live in Tavastia club.

If HELLsinki is the home of great Finnish metal bands, who are those metal bands? Let’s drop few diamonds..

The 69 Eyes

If I should name one great sleaze/glam rock band, it is definitely The 69 Eyes. Their best known songs are probably “Brandon Lee” and “Never Say Die”. The 69 Eyes has toured in Finland and abroad, and as an example, in 2005 they played almost 100 gigs in 15 countries. In early2006 the band started their first tour in United States.

Amorphis

Progressive metal band Amorphis is probably the best known metal band in HELLsinki. They became known in late 90’s with their Elegy album. The band is known for their use of the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala, as a source for their lyrics. A couple of years ago new singer joined Amorphis, and today the band is riding on top of their wave of success.

Norther

Being founded in 2000, Norther has quickly joined the group of leading Finnish metal bands. They have been in the official Finnish album list every time they have released a new album. Norther plays melodic death metal music and incorporates some elements from black, power and heavy metal. Norther is one of my all time favorites, really worth of checking out!

Apocalyptica

When they started, they were very different. They played Metallica covers with cellos. They are called Apocalyptica and they have become one of the best known Finnish metal bands. Apocalyptica is a cello trio of graduates of the Sibelius Academy in HELLsinki, Finland. Apocalyptica is just fantastic, superb. If you haven’t heard them yet, go and check it out! You won’t get disappointed.

Children of Bodom

Hey.. what should I say? Children of Bodom is the diamond. You know.. I have posted so many C.O.B. articles in this blog that I have nothing more to say than just C.O.B. fu$%#@# ROCKS!

Apocalyptica - Eurovision 2007

Apocalyptica played in the Eurovision 2007 song contest which was held in Finland last spring. A couple of days ago I posted two videos of Apocalyptica, so let’s continue the same direction. This video was filmed during the opening of the Eurovision song contest. It is pretty funny to see such headbanging in the Eurovision song contest. Actually guys remind me Amon Amarth :)

I am glad to see metal music entering the most boring contest on Earth, the Eurovision contest. It makes only good for the contest. For more great Apocalyptica songs, check out their video Nothing Else Matters.

Apocalyptica - Nothing Else Matters

This one is pretty old for most of us but I would like to post it because there must be people who have not heard of Apocalyptica. It is a Finnish metal band who play the cellos. They studied classical music and started playing Metallica covers together for fun. Soon they got audience and they became popular in Finland. Nowadays they are quite popular out there and they continuously get more and more attention.

Apocalyptica has shown that you can play metal music with the cellos and become famous without any guitar. These guys are unique and good. This music video is a cover of Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters. Listen to it. It is just awesome, especially the beginning notes of the song.

Apocalyptica - I’m Not Jesus

Apocalyptica has released some new stuff. The new single “I’m Not Jesus” featuring Corey Taylor sounds good. Apocalyptica is now clearly stepping into bigger arenas. It is easier to reach bigger audience with vocals in their music.

The beginning of the song reminds me Tom Waits (God’s Away On Business), right?
