Five Bands I would Like to Invite to My Christmas Party

Christmas is soon here and so is the party. I mean so called “pre-Christmas” party. We have already had that party at my work but some companies are going to have it on this week. There is always some live music in our parties. Usually there are some deadly boring old fags playing 70’s pop and rock covers. I have never seen a metal band in any parties organized by my employers. If I was in charge I would organize a bit different Christmas party..

Who would you like to see live in your party? I am into metal music, so I created a list of five bands I would like to invite to my party. After their gigs the bands would naturally join the audience and spend time with us. Which bands I would invite? Read below.

Band number 5: Mokoma

Mokoma is a band I would definitely invite to my party. They know how to entertain audience and how to play some trash metal. I would love to sit down with Mokoma’s singer Marko Annala and share a discussion. He is a clever guy and would probably have interesting things to say. Unfortunately he has quit drinking, so I could not drink a couple of Whiskey’s with him. Anyhow, Mokoma would be a perfect band to start the party with their aggressive trash metal.

Band number 4: Machine Head

Our trash metal party would continue with the great American metal band Machine Head who would provide us some more headbanging rhythms. I believe few dudes at my work would be very satisfied with Machine Head who would start their “my Christmas party” gig by playing Now I Lay Three Down.

Band number 3: Anthrax

After two great trash metal bands it would be great to continue with.. more trash metal! Good old Anthrax would play us their old classics such as In My World, Indians and Got The Time. Additionally they would play also some new stuff, but the singer would be Belladonna. With all the respect, all Anthrax singers have been good, but personally I prefer Belladonna. My great Christmas party would be well warmed up when Anthrax plays their What Doesn’t Die.

Band number 2: Lamb Of God

No no, my party would not be over yet. It would just get better and better, because the next band coming to satge would be Lamb Of God, who would start their gig by playing Redneck. Now, after Lamb of God gig I could have my change to drink a couple of Whiskey’s with these guys who do not say no to alcohol. I would not ask a single “fan question”. I believe they here them enough.

Band number 1: Children Of Bodom

Just before the midnight, the fifth band in my Christmas party would enter the stage. Children of Bodom would start their gig by playing Silent Nights, Bodom Nights. They would play 30 minutes for me and other nerds at my work. Just before the end of their gig, Children Of Bodom would play In Your Face.

So, my party would finally be over and all the nerds would get back to their homes. Well, I would thank the bands and ask them to join me and my mates to see the well kept secrect, Pantera playing live at Tavastia club in Hellsinki. I think I would run out of money before the first bands has entered the stage..

Have a great trashing Christmas party! Who would YOU invite? Drop a comment.

Mokoma - The Finnish Trash Metal Flagship Mokoma Has Released a New Album “Luihin ja Ytimiin”

Some years ago I went to see Maj Karma in the legendary Tavastia club in Helsinki. While taking off my jacket, an old friend of mine from the staff came to discuss a little. We talked about the upcoming gig and Maj Karma band which on that time was a pretty unique and artistic band. Soon my friend asked if I had heard about Mokoma. I said I have not and I asked what kind of music they play. “They play trash metal and they are unique, aggressive and furious. You will like them”. I promised to check them out. That was a good decision. I never get bored with Mokoma.

MokomaMokoma is really an interesting trash metal band. They sing in Finnish, which tightens their market to cover a bit more than 10 000 fans, but the guys are not here for the money. They have a great passion to make their music and they are satisfied with the fact that they will never reach a big audience. Why not? The two reasons are that they sing in Finnish and they make aggressive trash metal which is not as popular as many other music genres, such as rap and punk rock. Anyhow, Mokoma plays trash metal that definitely makes you bang your head. Their albums are fantastic, but they are even better on stage. They know how to entertain metalheads.

Mokoma’s first records included only clean vocals, but in their latest albums majority of the vocals are screaming and death metal grunts. Mokoma’s singer Marko Annala is an average singer and therefore his clean vocals are not the best part of their music. As soon as Annala changes to death metal grunts or screaming, he definitely rocks. Marko Annala sings with great passion and energy and it is a pleasure to listen to his aggressive singing.

Marko Annala writes the lyrics that many times are related to his own feelings and experiences. For example, in their previous record, Kuoleman Laulukunnaat, Marko Annala wrote much about his intimate experiences with life and relationships. Marko Annala has become better and better with lyrics, and personally I like most the lyrics of Kuoleman Laulukunnaat album.

Mokoma’s new album Luihin ja Ytimiin is out now. There are few samples available in Mokoma’s MySpace site. The new albums seems to be the most aggressive Mokoma album in which Mokoma experiments with trash, death and black metal elements. Mokoma does not follow any rules which can be realized from unpredictable compositions. This is one of the keys that make Mokoma’s music long-lasting. Nujerra Ihminen begins with a real kick-start and continues with aggressive riffs and fast speed. It is a good example of the new album.

Mokoma does not make mainstream music. Their music includes massive riffs, interesting hooks, energetic drums, furious screaming and helluva lot more details that make their music long-lasting. Mokoma’s music is not easy to swallow if you are not interested in trash metal. If you are, then you might easily get hooked. Check out their albums and make your own conclusions. Mokoma is a great live band who is reaching more and more fans. If you are coming to Finland on next summer, check out Mokoma’s tour dates and find yourself in their audience. I bet you would not be disappointed.

I could write a book about Mokoma, but this time this is enough. Check out the video below. What do you think about Mokoma? Like it or not? Just drop a comment, please. I would like to hear your opinions as well.

Cool Dude Rockin’ On Mokoma’s Gig

What the heck is this guy doing in the audience? He looks like he just got out of hospital and got immediate drunk. Man, this dude is lost big time or he just happens to be a great fan of Mokoma. Rock on!

Mokoma - Haudan Takaa

I discovered Mokoma somewhere around 2001. It was a great finding, absolutely. Since that Mokoma has been one of my favourite trash metal bands. Mokoma is aggressive, furious, fast, cruel, but also melodic. It’s a fantastic trash metal band, one of the shining stars in the sky of Finnish metal music. Here is Mokoma’s music video for the song “Haudan Takaa”. This is today’s trash metal. For 80’s trash metal I recommend you to check out my post of Stone.
