One of the Old Jokes: Nightwish Wishmaster - Misheard Lyrics

Yeah, I know. This is nothing new and you might have seen it thousand times. Anyhow, the video just happens to be simply funny, so I decided to post it in this blog. It is basically a video of Nightwish playing Wishmaster with misheard lyrics.

I have always had problems with understanding the lyrics of Nightwish, especially when sang by Tarja Turunen. It is not only with this band, but also with many other metal bands. For example Rhapsody of Fire’s lyrics are pretty difficult to understand by hearing. Notice that I did not mention any black metal bands. It is simply impossible to understand the lyrics of many black metal bands. And yes, it is difficult to understand the lyrics of many death metal bands as well.

English is not my first language. Therefore I just can’t understand all the words singers pronounce. It is funny to see how some words sound exactly like written in the video below! For example “Disciple!” sounds like understood in the video (”this rifle”) and “Lorien” sounds like “L’Oreal”. Also the original “Distant sigh from a lonely heart” sounds exactly like understood in the video below (”it’s a sign from a lonely harp”).

Here are the original lyrics.

Master!
Apprentice!
Heartborne, 7th Seeker
Warrior!
Disciple!
In me the Wishmaster

Elbereth
Lorien

A dreamy-eyed child staring into night
On a journey to storyteller’s mind
Whispers a wish speaks with the stars the words are silent in him
Distant sigh from a lonely heart
“I’ll be with you soon, my Shalafi”
Grey Havens my destiny

Master!…

Silvara
Starbreeze

Sla-Mori the one known only by Him
To august realms, the sorcery within
If you hear the call of arcane lore,
your world shall rest on Earth no more
A maiden elf calling with her cunning song
“Meet me at the Inn of Last Home”
Heartborne will find the way!

Master!…

Wishmaster
Crusade for Your will
A child, dreamfinder
The Apprentice becoming…

Master!…

Nightwish On Its Way To Global Success - Is Nightwish Going To Make It?

night3.jpgI am a blogger and I use Alexa.Com traffic ranking services quite often to see and compare traffic figures of other sites. For some reason my friend asked me to check out the traffic ranking of Nightwish.Com website. I was amazed with the results. Traffic to Nightwish.Com was remarkable. I am so used to use Alexa.Com that I immediately noticed the high traffic ranking of Nightwish.Com website. Next I wanted to compare it to other, mostly very famous band websites. I got a little bit shocked about the popularity of Nightwish website..

Hold on! First, are you familiar with Alexa.Com? Shortly said, Alexa ranks websites based on their traffic figures. For example, position number one is currently held by Yahoo.Com and in the second position there is Google.Com. This means Yahoo.Com is more popular than Google.Com. Facebook.Com is in position seven which means it is the seventh most visited website in the Internet. If you see a graph for a website, it means the website belongs to 100,000 most visited websites in the Internet.

6m.PNGI compared the traffic of Nightwish.Com to KidRock.Com, Metallica.Com, Lamb-Of-God.Com and Linkin-Park.Com. I picked up those sites just because they belong to “big bands” that are very popular at least in North America. Results are very interesting. As you see in the figures, Nightwish.Com website is the most popular site, even more popular than Metallica.Com. Other band’s websites are far away from the popularity of Nightwish.Com.

3y.PNGThe image above is based on six months traffic numbers. To see the big picture, long-term traffic data is needed. The figure on left side is based on three years traffic numbers. As you see, the popularity of Nightwish.Com grows steadily. During those three years it has been popular, but not as much as Metallica.Com. Just lately Nightwish.Com has reached the level of Metallica.Com. In order to see the status right now, short-term traffic data is needed. Three month traffic data analysis shows that Nightwish.Com has recently got more popular than Metallica.Com and any other website in this comparison.

3m.PNGWhat does all this tell us? Nightwish has created attention and their website is one of the most visited websites in rock and metal music business. Because they have created such attention, they have all the possibilities to break through in North America. It is possible for Nightwish to become a world class band, but are they going to make it happen? Ok, it is not that simple, but the point is that Nightwish is much more popular in the Internet than I expected. It has been noticed that bands like Nigthwish and The 69 Eyes are getting more and more popular in North America, but will they ever break through. Well, we will see it.

Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic power metal band who has recently released their new album Dark Passion Play. Nightwish received much attention when they fired their vocalist Tarja Turunen and hired a new vocalist called Anette Olzon. Dark Passion Play has sold more than 100,000 pieces in Finland and it was the best selling album in Finland in 2007.

Fire during the Nightwish Gig in Finland - 6500 People were Evacuated

night31.jpgNightwish had a gig in Jyvaskyla in Finland on Friday. After only three songs they had to stop playing due to thick smoke on stage. Finnish newspapers reported that there was a lot of smoke and flames in the roof. The whole audience, about 6500 people, was evacuated immediately.

Nightwish quickly stepped back from the stage, but came back later on and continued the gig. People were not in panic, but a little bit furious due to half an hour break. The fire was a real, but hopefully the firemen took the situation in control.

People were not reported about the incident, which is probably one reason for being frustrated. Hopefully Nightwish bassist Marco Hietala told the audience the fire in the roof. Newspapers report that Marco Hietala had asked the audience: “Are You Still in Flames”? ?

Another great news from Nightwish is that today their Dark Passion Play album has sold 100 000 pieces in Finland! In Switzerland the album sales has reached the platinum level. This is great for Nightwish, and as a Finn it feels good when the bands of my home country make success.

Nightwish is touring now in Finland, tomorrow (Saturday) in Tampere. In the end of December Nightwish will play in Austria and Germany, after which they will play one gig in Finland before they continue to Japan, China, and Australia and so on.

Nightwish Continues Success with Their New Album Dark Passion Play

night3.jpgFinnish symphonic metal band Nightwish was born in 1996 and released their first album, Angel Fall First, in November 1997. Their real breakthrough happened with Oceanborn album which was released in December 1998. Nightwish continued to gain attention with their next album Wishmaster which was released in spring 2000. Since those days has happened this and that, but the fact is that Nightwish has become one of the flagships of Finnish music industry. Although there are lots of fans and lots of those who do not like Nightwish, it is fantastic to see Nightwish, as one of the Finnish metal bands, being successful.

I remember purchasing Oceanborn album back in 1998. It was a stunning album because it was different and new. I found those instrumental melodies combined with mezzo-soprano vocals just stunning. I spent spring 1999 skiing in France with few dudes. We played Oceanborn album every single day after skiing the whole day in the Alps. I remember some folks getting bored and complaining about the “church heavy”, as they said. We did not really care too much, and answered simply “shut the fuck up”. Yep, Oceanborn is a classic and it still rocks after almost ten years.

Nightwish has now released their most expensive album, Dark Passion Play, which was an immediate success. Even though the new album has sold well, there are people who claim that Nightwish was buried in October 23rd 2005 as they fired Tarja Turunen. People claim that Nightwish has become an “average” band and the new songs do not sound like Nightwish anymore. I feel that Nightwish is looking for bigger audience. People in the world take easier the new album than those old ones. Pop and rock music are much more popular in the world than metal music.

All in all, Nightwish sounds a bit different nowadays, a bit more like a rock band. I like many of those new songs, but what I do not like in the new album is those messages to Tarja Turunen and Marcelo Kabuli (listen to Bye Bye Beautiful and Master Passion Greed). They should have fixed their problems as a private issue and left the album only for music. Anyhow, let’s get back to the good things in the new album. I listen to classical music as much as metal, and I really enjoy those overwhelming classical and operatic elements in the new album. Some years ago I remember listening to Rhapsody and thinking “are there any limits in using classical elements”? Their music sounds more and more powerful and theatrical. Where is the limit? Anyhow, I enjoy those classical elements of Nightwish’s Dark Passion Play album.

Nightwish is now touring in Nordic countries. Check out Nightwish website for further information of the band.
Nightwish is also in MySpace.

Nightwish Music Videos Directed By Pro Antti Jokinen - Bye Bye Beautiful

Nightwish is making money nowadays. The costs of making their new album were 500 000 euros which is pretty much for a metal band, so they probably expect a good revenue. Nightwish is clearly targeting to mainstream and expects good sales. Well, that’s nothing new and there is nothing bad in it. It is just interesting to see how far Nightwish will go.

Nightwish music videos are directed by Antti Jokinen, a professional Finnish director who has worked with many “big names”. When watching the Nightwish videos, especially the old ones and comparing them to Amaranth and Nemo, you can clearly see the development. The new Nightwish music videos are just perfectly made and they belong into the “top class”, let’s say. I am glad for that. It is always good to see bands of my homecountry becoming famous. I just wish this same would happen to Amorphis, C.O.B., Stam1na, Mokoma, Wintersun, etc..

According to Finnish media, the costs of making Nightwish video Nemo were 150 000 euros, which on that time was the most expensive music video made in Finland. The latest Nightwish video, Bye Bye Beautiful is also directed by Antti Jokinen. In the video band members are replaced by sexy babes. The idea comes probably from Queen’s video The Miracle in which the band members are replaced by little kids.

By the way, I would like to publish Nightwish lyrics, as well as other band’s lyrics, but I am not sure about the rights. They changed the rights in Finland some time ago, and because my server is located in Finland, I must follow the Finnish law. I need to find out. I read the lyrics many times because I sing as well, so I would like to provide you them for you as well. In this post I would provide you the Nightwish lyrics for their song Bye Bye Beautiful, but not yet.. Well, I will find out if it is legal. Meanwhile, here is Nightwish Bye Bye Beautiful music video, directed by Antti Jokinen. Cool, eh?

Nightwish - Amaranth (Piano Version)

I am interested in classical music as much as metal music. I listen to classical probably as much as metal and I also play some by myself. Some time ago I happened to find piano versions of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, etc. played by some random dudes. I have to say some of them are very impressive, especially one song in which a guy plays Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit by the piano.

Well, here’s one great piano version of Nightwish song Amaranth. It is played by some “BahamutZero62″ in YouTube, don’t know who he is.. Anyhow, this sounds fantastic.

Nightwish - While Your Lips Are Still Red

This was a staggering finding. I searched for Nightwish music and discovered their new music video for their song “While Your Lips Are Still Red”. Man what can I say? Tuomas Holopainen rocks! He is absolutely amazing composer. This is one of the most touching songs I have ever heard. It is a fantastic combination of simple piano notes, violins and the voice of Marco Hietala. Absolutely fantastic piece of music!! Check out also Amaranth video!

I just keep on listening this day after day. So fucking good!

Nightwish - Amaranth

The new Nightwish album will be released soon. Amaranth is the first piece with video available. Not bad, not bad. Actually damn good! The new singer is not like Tarja Turunen, not at all, but she has a perfect voice. I hope she’s good on stage as well.

The video looks good. I heard Nightwish has spent around 800 000 euros for the new album, so it better be good :) This video is at least a very good kickstart for the new album release. Great! By the way, did you know that Marco Hietala from Nightwish also plays in Tarot.
