Yesterday I wrote about the results of January’s question. It seems that most of the readers of this blog consider Metallica as the greatest trash metal band of the 80’s. In yesterday’s post we also mentioned about the new question that is running during February. See the question on the right sidebar? What do you think? Should mosh pits be banned?

First of all, what is a mosh pit? The good old Wikipedia says “Moshing refers to the activity in which audience members at live music performances aggressively push or slam into each other. Moshing is frequently accompanied by stage diving, crowd surfing, and headbanging. It is commonly associated with concerts by heavy metal, punk rock, and alternative rock artists, although it occurs at performances by musicians of all sorts of genres“.

Every now and then newspapers write how rock or metal concerts have turned into a chaos. Some people claim that such a chaos can be initiated from a mosh pit. As a friend of mine said, “there’s always one weirdo who starts hitting people and then the bomb is ready to explode“. Do you agree with my friend? Check out the video below. In the footage you can see a typical mosh pit during Lamb Of God’s gig. Should such mosh pits be banned or is it just overreacting?

January 2008 Question Results - Metallica is the Greatest Trash Metal Band of the 80’s

In January we asked “Who is the greatest Thrash Metal band of the 80’s?”. Now we have the results that are pretty much as I expected. Our visitors seem to consider Metallica as the greatest trash metal band of the 80’s. The next greatest bands are (in order) Slayer and Megadeth. 61 people answered this poll and the votes are divided as below. Metallica received 22 votes (36%), Slayer 16 votes (22%) and Megadeth 10 votes (16%). Two people answered “Other“, one with a comment “Tough one, Undecided“.

Please notice our February’s question which is already running. During February we simply ask “Should Mosh Pits Be Banned?“. As we know, mosh pits can sometimes be violent and dangerous because a mosh pit can turn to a chaos and fight. What do you think, should they be banned or not?

December 2007 Poll Results - Guitar and Bass Most Played

December 2007 poll is over and the results are here. It seems most visitors play guitar, bass and piano. 24% of those who answered play guitar and 14% play bass and piano. Also 14% play nothing, while 10% of those who answered play keyboards or drums. It was a little bit suprising for me that only 7% sing. Classical instruments are not played much, only one vote was given to flute. Violin and Cello are not played at all by those who answered this poll, while one person plays an instrument that was not listed in this poll.

As said above, guitar and bass are the most played instruments by the readers of this blog. This is exactly as I expected. Thanks you for taking your time to answer this poll. Please, check out the new poll on right side and leave your answer.

November Poll Results - Black, Death and Power Metal Most Popular

November Poll is closed and the results are interesting. It seems that most of the visitors in this blog listen to black metal and death metal. This is interesting because black and death metal are not the most popular in general. One reason for this is probably that there are many black metal blogs who have linked to my blog and that’s why most of the visitors are black metal fans. The third voted genre is power metal, which I actually expected.

One thing that was really surprising was that industrial metal is not as popular as I expected. I have always thought that people listen to industrial metal pretty much, but it seems I was wrong. Additionally also doom metal was not as popular as I expected.

All in all, it is good for me to know that people listen to black, death and power metal in order to provide you interesting articles. People also voted for trash, speed, folk and symphonic metal, etc. as you can see in the results below. I cover most of the genres in this blog, so I will try my best in providing something good for almost everyone, but I will focus into the genres I mainly listen to. Those are death metal, power metal, trash metal, viking metal and progressive metal.

I wasn’t suprised with the sidebar poll results, Finnish metal music has really became popular in the world. Of course this random sample was rather small and therefore the results cannot be generalized. Anyhow, we can see that Finnish metal music is recognized and appreciated worldwide.

The question was: From where come the best metal bands?
